The grungy and dangerous lifestyle of 1920’s Northern England is channeled through the branding of this Duolingo x Peaky Blinders ad campaign for Netflix. Keeping with Duolingo branding guidelines, the goal was to give a new life to the Duolingo mascot but with a Peaky Blinder twist. This ominous twist keeps with the mood of the Peaky Blinders show, with just enough humour to bring out the fun and light hearted feel of the Duolingo brand. Much of the design is inspired by time period mugshot photos of the Peaky Blinder gang, complete with similar wood block style fonts as seen in newspapers of the day. Textures were added to give the ads a worn and vintage vibe.
