Written in 1928 by Erich Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front has been painting a bleak image of war for nearly one hundred years. When designing this book cover, the goal was to get the ominous and visually horrifying scenes of World War One across. With the book following the main character Paul, I decided on creating an illustration that captured the fear that soldiers would have felt. Many photos, depicting shell shocked troops, period equipment and battlefield wastelands were looked at in order to glean a more informed direction for this project. With muted colors, the final design is truly representative of the horrors of war.
